Port of New Orleans

On Nov 14, 2019, a meeting with Mr. David Cordell, Chief Information Officer and Local Agency Security Officer, Port of New Orleans was held with Cyber Security Experts from Nepal.

Port Nolan is at the center of the world’s busiest port complex, Lousiana’s Lower Mississippi river. We found that New Orleans is one of America’s leading general cargo ports with the USA’s top market share for imported steel, natural rubber, plywood, and coffee.

Mr. David Cordell, CIO, and Local Agency Security Officer, provides the Port of New Orleans with essential computer and security infrastructure. Among his duties as CIO, Cordell currently services on the advisory board of the Maritime Port Security Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (MPS ISAO) and holds several NASA Security Certifications. Mr. Cordell had and amazing knowledge and things to share with us. We were all spellbound to hear him.

The meeting helped us learn about how the port coordinates with other agencies to prepare for the physical and cyber threats to the port.
